Henrik Fisher is a legendary automotive designer and entrepreneur best known for designing iconic luxury cars including the BMW Z8, Aston Martin DB9, Aston Martin V8 Vantage, Fisker Karma, Galpin-Fisker Mustang Rocket, VLF Force 1 V10 and the VLF Destino V8.
The first time Henrik Fisker started an automotive company bearing his name, he ran into several troubles; Elon Musk/Tesla brought a lawsuit against Fisker alleging Fisker stole Tesla’s technology and were using it to develop their own hybrid car, the Fisker Karma. In early 2009, the suit was settled in Fisker’s favor and Tesla was ordered to pay Fisker more than US$1.1 million in legal fees.
The Fisker Karma was the world’s first premium plug-in hybrid and got off to a great start receiving a handful of accolades, including; Automobile magazine’s Design of the Year Award and Time magazine’s 50 Best Inventions of 2011.
However, after delivering a couple thousand vehicles, production was suspended in late 2012, when the sole battery supplier, A123 Systems, filed for bankruptcy following two battery recalls. Fisker Automotive was unable to continue production and filed for bankruptcy in November 2013.
Henrik Fisker learned the lessons of his previous endeavors well and poured the painful experience gained from Fisker Automotive, into a new company, Fisker Inc. .
Fisker originally planned to power his next vehicle with a solid state cutting edge battery through a joint venture with Nanotech Energy, dubbed Fisker Nanotech. However, once it was realized Nanotech Energy could not meet production, plans to use the cutting edge technology and quite possibly the partnership, were shelved. In its place, Fisker went with advanced Lithium Ion cells manufactured by LG Chem.
Henrik Fisker officially unveiled his latest creation, the Fisker Emotion at the 2018 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Dubbed the spiritual successor to the Fisker Karma, the Emotion is a breathtaking 4 door all electric automobile with a Tesla beating range of 400 miles, all wheel drive, top speed of 160 mph, and butterfly doors. The Emotion will go head to head with the Tesla Model S with a rumored price tag of just under $130,000. Want one? You can put down a $2,000 deposit and reserve yours today.
